A Time to Give Back

We have had a busy past few weeks in Aftercare and Enrichment; from white belt ceremonies, to video production shows, and much more.  One thing that was very memorable was our Service Project Vacation Camp on November 28th. The students participated in a number of activities, that would make someone’s holiday a little bit more special.

They tie dyed pillow cases for an Organization called Ryan’s Case for Smiles. Ryan’s Case for Smiles is an organization that delivers pillow cases to children and their families in hospitals around the nation.  Their focus is on helping kids ‘feel better and heal better’  while they are still in the hospital. They hope to make a difference in the lives of the patients, and improve their quality of life.

They also made and decorated Christmas/Holiday cards for Veterans around the country.  The Walter Reed Medical Center accepts and distributes holiday cards to recovering veterans and various different hospitals.  The kids used their own creativity and ideas to make these cards to put a smile on someone’s face, during a difficult time.

The last project that the students participated in was a cooking project.  The students made baked beans and hot dog casseroles for local homeless people. They took the time to slice hot dogs, and prepare all of the ingredients to be delivered to the Upper Darby Homeless Shelter.

The day was filled with a lot of laughter and fun. The kids really enjoyed having an opportunity to participate in fun projects, all while giving back.  What a joy it is to be able to help others!
